Manassas Host Lions Club is a service organization dedicated to filling many needs in our community and in the lives of individuals that might otherwise not be met. We provides glasses, hearing devices, and other related items to assist those who are blind and visually and hearing impaired.
Knights of the Blind
The Lions organization was founded in 1917 in Illinois by Melvin Jones, a Chicago businessman. At one of its early conventions, Helen Keller challenged the Lions to become “Knights of the Blind”. The Lions accepted that challenge and is the leading international organization working for the prevention and cure of blindness.
Today that challenge is being met through the Lions International Sight First program. There are over 40 million blind persons in the world today and 80% of all vision loss can be prevented or cured. The Sight First program has raised over $130 million for use in blindness prevention.
